The Law
"The free press is the mother of all our liberties and of our progress under liberty."   Adlai Stevenson.

Experience has taught me that on a worldwide basis, the only laws that are obeyed with a
degree of certainty, are those based on commonsense and decency.  The qualification being that they don't attempt to change the status quo or try to alter human nature.  Most people automatically follow their conscience and live life without having to worry about the law. Only a small percentage will ever become criminals.  Logic tells us it's more satisfying to be honest.  The last thing most of us want is to be pointed out as anti social villains.

Laws that are propagated to ensure profit to a group of individuals, will alway create
objections.  Democracy is usually ignored by those making the law for their own gain.  This is why people protest against obvious injustices.  The sad thing is that business can't see past money making and government ignores the needs of private individuals.  Government has no money making skills of its own and relies upon taxation to finance its fantasies.  If you look at the situation from an objective point of view, government produce nothing and contributes absolutely zero to the community.   In fact, official fantasies are a financial drain on the economy.

It could be argued that government supply the police and armies to protect the citizen from
evil doers.  Wrong.  The army and police are designed to protect the government from the
people.  The citizen pays many times over for these facilities he rarely uses.  For example.  I have never needed the police and have no intention of invading anybody else's country with weapons of mass destruction.  All I want is to left alone to live and die as I see fit.  I don't need thousands of civil servants telling me how to live my life.  I don't need politicians lying through their teeth merely to justify their existence.  I don't need soldiers murdering millions of people who have never done me any harm.  I don't want or need this sort of protection. But government needs my money for its survival.  Therefore, I am taxed almost out of existence.  Now who depends upon the efforts of whom?

I don't mind contributing to the welfare of those with disadvantages.  The human race is not perfect and not everybody can cope with official stupidity.  To these people I extend my hand in friendship.  But I do not extend the same welcome to those who insist I obey fatuous laws that are to my disadvantage.  Accordingly, if I want to smoke cigarettes, I will.  It's not government's job to tell me how I should live or to die.  My life belongs to me, not some faceless meddler who can't survive without stealing my money.

Politicians forget that they are elected to serve the people.  The people do not exist to serve the needs of the self interested egotists.  So if politicians make laws I don't like, I simply ignore them.  Judging from their competence level, the odds are that I will never be
prosecuted for anything.  I suspect this applies all over the world.  This tells me that I'm an
average law abiding citizen.

My only meaningful protests are internet columns and letters to the editor.  These prejudice nobody, yet inform millions of how much their freedoms are being destroyed by thoughtlessly agreeing with officialdom.  This is why freedom of the press and the internet, must be preserved from official interference.  No matter what your beliefs, your life is shaped by the knowledge you absorb.  It's hard to tell political lies from half truths but the more you experience, the more you will understand.  Complacency and lack of initiative are why the average citizen understands very little about politics.  Inexperienced teenagers aside.  If you believe that politicians have your interest at heart.  Perhaps you should grasp that there's no fool like an old fool.
