"We are living in a world in which nobody is free, in which hardly anybody is secure, in which it is almost impossible to be honest and to remain alive."  George Orwell

If you analyse history, the cause of violent revolution is always the same.  Namely: political
ego verse basic human need.  On a percentage basis, New Zealand is about 80-85% down the
potholed road to disarray.  All I can do is suggest the reasons and advise that history will
demonstrate the inevitable.

Please remember that articles like this are rarely written more than twice a century.  It can take about fifty years for people to realise what's happening in their lives. Some articles have been disguised as novels to avoid the authors being persecuted.  George Orwell's 1984 is the classic example.

I chose to write Fantasy Land as a warning to New Zealanders as to what lies ahead. Although I have simply stated the obvious: my persecution depends on the level of corruption in NZ officialdom.  It would cost about $100.000 a year to keep me in jail but as long as it's a women's prison, this mere male doesn't mind.  NZ's future is more important than my virginity.  Verily I say unto you, us mere males must stand up for our convictions.

Even a little dog can piss on a big building. Jim Hightower

New Zealand was for many years regarded as Heaven to the locals.  The climate was temperate and rainfall plentiful.  There was no such thing as poverty or starvation.  A country a little bigger than England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales glued together, had a little more than 2.5 million people in the years after World War 2.

The fifties, sixties and seventies were the boom years when mum stayed home to raise the kids and dad worked eight hours a day to feed the family and pay the mortgage.  There was no
unemployment and being jobless was simply a matter of enjoying an extended holiday.  Society's moral values were based upon honesty and hard work.

The young were more or less obliged to travel to England for their great OE (overseas experience) and praise Mother England as the Homeland to surpass all Homelands. Never mind that their grandparents had sailed the seven seas to get way from warm beer and the extreme poverty so faithfully recorded in the Charles Dickens novels.  NZ was as far as they could sail without falling off the edge and the Land of the Long white Cloud became the Last Hope Resort.

In the good old days, to be employed by the civil service, you had to be of above average
intelligence and acknowledge that as the public paid your salary, you owed them
commonsense, honesty and decency.  However, robbing Peter to pay Paul, always has the
disagreement of Peter and naturally there were discrepancies in the value for money
contentions.

Using NZ Gobspeak (bureaucratic gobbledegook in triplicate multiplied by four), one could
rely upon your death certificate being issued within five years of dying, providing at least ten
years notice (seventeen copies) was given in advance of your birth.  As you can imagine,
there are numerous people more than 200 years of age awaiting official permission to be born.
Sadly, owing to bureaucratic lassitude they are unable to claim the old age pension.

In the old days the standard of NZ civil service administration was admired worldwide.  Sadly, this doesn't mean anything positive.  After their 1917 revolution the Russians based their society upon New Zealand's way of doing things.  The only difference being state ownership verse private ownership.  Look what happened to Russia over the years.

In the eighties along came computers.  The electronic revolution meant no more paperwork
and only half the number of public servants would be required.  NZ could become the
wealthiest sanctuary from reality in the entire world.  The world's poor would line up to be
admitted as immigrants by upgrading their prestige to third world citizens.

Extra daylight saving arrived.  Farmers planted pot instead of breeding sheep.  This reduced
the fluffy numbers from 80 to 30 million.  The extra hour of sunlight doubled the marijuana crop and a thriving export market emerged.  Pottles of pot were exported from rural plantations to tinny towns all over NZ.  Teenagers and those who wished to remain cool bought pot pipes and cigarette papers by the metric tonne.  The Imperial ton was old fashioned and to hell with the England that refused to buy anymore of our frozen mutton.  This was the reason sheep farming went to the pot.

NZ was moving into a smoky electronic future.  Nothing would get in the way of intellectual
enlightenment and reactionary unprogressive imagination.  Godzone's time had come to lead
the world into a destructive convulsion mode.  The progressive land of reticent freedom was
regarded as "cool."

As always, religion rattled its never-ending sabre.
"Tis God's Will," echoed the empty churches, hoping to maintain their tax and rate free status.  "Abide with me and all will be well," shivered the collection plates.

The original politicians were of course religious leaders and today's political parties ceaselessly thump their fists and pray for exaltation at public expense.  With government computers tapping private phone calls and reading emails to protect NZ from unknown dangers, the politicians eventually realized that they were their own worst enemy, and that the public must never learn of this undesirable truth.  So they promoted in-house, an ancient Coptic script believed to be from the 23rd Century BE (Before Elvis).

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."
  Joseph Goebbels

Have you noticed that in the so called advanced societies, the better your academic qualifications, the higher up the ladder of success you can crawl?  In today's world, intelligence, gumption and experience mean very little.  The ability to worm and agree with
everything the boss says is a prerequisite to advancement.  Bureaucrats are the classic example.  But the worst cowboys have always been the politicians.  They assume the mantel
of superior intelligence and yet no scholastic qualifications are required.  To be elected to
parliament all one needs is a big mouth and the ability to lie while keeping a straight face.

NZ was suffering an identity crisis and it was time for the left and right side of politics to form a union of assumed geniuses to combat the radical public, satirically known as the Jackass Mentality.  Albert Einstien's version of Jackass suggests.  "In order to form an immaculate member of a flock of sheep one must, above all, be a sheep."

As a result the "We Know Best" middle of the road political parties sprung into being.  They
realised that changes must be subtle and virtually unnoticeable to avoid adverse reactions.  So
with collective egos to the fore and brushing away propriety they introduced thousands of new laws primarily designed to keep the public in perpetual darkness.  School curriculums were changed to teach only what was acceptable to the politicians.  If the kids can be told what to see and read, it follows that they can be told what to say and think. Sport participation was downgraded.  Children left school lacking the ability to read, let alone the comprehension of following the instructions.

Real wages were reduced by government spending on itself which caused hyper inflation.
Today, wages are about 62% behind the increased cost of living. To combat what politicians
underhandedly describe as uncontrollable overseas factors.  Interest rates were increased to
the highest in the civilised world to help suggest that the number of people losing their homes
would help lower inflation.  Yet the main cause of inflation was the massive cost of government.  Financial disasters caused by 'pass the buck' experts were naturally blamed on the long-suffering public.

More and more people expressed concern at the way NZ was heading but the "We Know Better" brigade had the answer.  More prisons were built and jail sentences were introduced
for the anti social crime of thinking beyond official conceptions.  NZ now had the second
highest number of jailbirds in the world.  The justice system became a mockery of trivialities.
Judges were politically appointed and tainted with the contagious genes of the, "do as you're
told or suffer the consequences," brigade.

Over the years, hundreds of thousands of the young and talented left NZ, never to return.
Immigrants from Asia arrived by the thousands only to be described by small-minded politicians as too short, slant eyed and a financial liability to Godzone.  Naturally they raised their slant eyed fingers and took their multi billions elsewhere.  Don't forget that the NZ Maori originally came from the Asian island of Taiwan.  But this was on the 'be quiet' list for politicians with brown skins.

One of the most consequential things was that integrity faded into the background. Politicians unreservedly lied, yet demanded incorruptibility from the people.  Going through the motions of pretence became an art form and hundreds policy analysts and public relations personnel (spin doctors) became a major part of government's ploy to corroborate propaganda.

Instead of being reduced, bureaucratic penpushers were increased by about 30%.

"Down with dole bludgers."  Yelled those employed by government.  Instead of the new
employees being of above average intelligence, the reverse became mandatory.  Personal
initiative was now officially barred.  Vision impairing sunglasses became the excuse for
grovelling dementia and days were divided into short periods in case an unthinking member
of the public wanted information without authority.  Such mindless obedience was rewarded
with an above average pay check.  It's called bribery in the land of depreciating incompetence
where actual work (coffee making) takes about two hours a day.

Parkinson's Law clearly states:
Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.

The Social Welfare system became a rort with about 25% of those qualifying for the old age
pension being denied for dubious reasons.  Thousands were shifted from the dole to sickness
benefits.  The genuinely sick or unemployed found that if they told the truth, financial assistance was denied by corrupt legislation.  A generation of professional liars emerged because if they didn't lie, crime would be their only source of income and not everybody was
criminally inclined.  Solecism became the norm of bureaucrats who didn't know the difference between right and wrong.  Most couldn't even spell the words "commonsense verse corruption."  But nothing sank into the minds of the "We Know Best" brigade.  Their sunglasses were dirty.

A heavyweight drug culture blossomed and Maori gangs were blamed for everything remotely unsociable.  The synthetic drug "P" became the ultimate experience.  One way or another it ultimately killed thousands.  Party pills were regarded as harmless by the public but legislated against by politicians who wanted to control what everybody ate for breakfast. Exaggerated social differences based upon race and creed were becoming perilously common. Government was all about mind control and gathering money, not fulfilling or understanding the needs of human beings.

There were deliberate laws against many aspects of human nature.  If some imagined miscarriage of justice cropped up, the law was changed overnight.  What had been legal and
honest for thousands of years was now a crime.  However, making crime legal didn't make it
honest.  To justify making the transgression legal, the word "honest" was removed from the
dictionary.  Domestic violence rose 32% as people struggled with incomprehensible laws. With poverty expanding, financial frustrations pleaded guilty.

Motorists were pinpointed as an endless source of revenue and a large number of police were
allocated to raise x amount of dollars per day.  Normal crime statistics soared with the police
being converted from independent crime fighters to politicised revenue gatherers. Speed kills
screamed the politicians to justify their greed.  But they only fooled themselves.  The death rate from motor accidents was reducing because of superior motor vehicle design.  Speed alone killed nobody.  It never has and never will.  The police chose to shut their minds (I'm only doing my job) to the injustices they litigated.

Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph:
   Haile Selassie

Laws were introduced using terrorism as an excuse to lock anybody up without trial for three
lifetimes and two days.  Immigrants were easy meat.  The so-called terrorist was not told what
he was supposed to have done and thus unable to defend himself.  Innocent until proven guilty has been thrown out the window.  A small portion of the media pointed out that official corruption was the name of the game and that Lady Justice had been deliberately blindfolded.
Deliberate deafness ensured officialdom listening to the people was political incorrectness
personified.
It was the day New Zealand Justice died.  Bye-bye Kiwiana Pie.

History, as always, provides the precedent.  As Thomas Paine summarized in 1791.   "The duty of a patriot is to protect his country from the government. It has become the only source of terrorism that we have need to think about."  But the "We Know Best" brigade thought of nothing but themselves.  The man in the street was a nonentity but a never-ending source of money.  Official theft by stealth expanded.  Political ego trips paid for by nonentities were fashionable.  Rapacity became officially acceptable.

Crimes that didn't make sense increased.  Home invasions and pointless murders averaged
about one or two a week.  In the fifties and sixties there were perhaps two murders a year and
the Prime Minister had his telephone number in the phone book.  In contrast, many of today's
politicians need 24/7 security merely to survive.

Mental patients were booted out of hospitals to live among the public because it was cheaper.
With social injustices expanding, NZ quickly became one of the most suicide prone countries
in the world.  The story of NZ life was becoming uninsurable.

Any tax payer service that cost the government money was cut to bone, but anything that
raised money, no matter how unjust or dishonest, was encouraged.  Ripoff taxation became
the second highest in the civilised world.  One way or another, about 85% of personal income
was diverted into government coffers.

In 1989 the dam broke and almost drowned the politicians in their own stupidity.  They
decided that using physical discipline to help educate kids was immoral, would make them fat
and cause them to think cantankerous thoughts about their political masters.

"No No" they screamed, tearing at their hair.  "Kids thinking for themselves is a capitalist plot and will cause the downfall of our fascist democracy and obesity in schools.  Down with
commonsense and meat pies."

Henceforth physical discipline was barred in schools.  In a few months the young and the
restless realised that they could get away with murder and ruled the classrooms with iron fists.
The wise teachers retired or moved offshore as the education standards inevitably slid backwards.  The disintegration of NZ society was inaugurated.  A whole generation of
undisciplined teens caused violent chaos in the streets.  Their philosophy?  If authorities won't listen to their concerns, they won't listen to the authorities.  To combat the rebels without a cause, laws barring smoking, drinking and general gathering in CBD's were introduced in most towns. The kids naturally took exception to being told how to live their lives and battles with the police has been commonplace for nearly twenty years.

The number of the mentally embittered has increased dramatically.  The danger to the innocent public is obvious with brutal assaults and pointless murders becoming commonplace.  Violent crime has increased by 43% in the last ten years.

More water flowed over the dam of stupidity and 2007 saw parents unable to physically
discipline their kids.  Smacking was banned.  More than 80% of the population disagreed with the offbeat legislation, but the corridors of unenlightened power knew better.  Within months several babies were brutally murdered.  The "We Know Better" brigade screamed, we told you we were right, completely forgetting that if a dysfunctional adult was of mind to kill an infant, passing a million laws wouldn't make any difference.  To placate the public, self justification of biassed opinions became the political ploy dreamed up by spin doctors.

With the politicisation of the civil service, the inevitable conflicts of interests became apparent.  The Minister of 'Stuff the Public Department' only hired wooden posts that supported his political fence.  If an employee had a friend who supported the opposition's fence, all hell broke lose.  Naturally the Minister denied all knowledge but secretly instructed his CEO to find a way to remove the offending post forthwith.  On the other hand, bureaucratic grovellers were found to have vivid imaginations when it came to enhancing their qualifications. Generally speaking the only way for the pen pushers to survive was to hang their heads and mutter "Yes Minister."  This led to eye fluttering  incompetence and the downgrading of bureaucrats to the same level as military personnel obeying senseless orders without question.

The Jackass Mentality were a long way from being innocent.  Many retirees refused to see
beyond the end of their comfortable noses.  Their entire lives had been mentally and financially cosseted by simply believing what they were told.  They knew it was God's truth that it was unwise to look out the window in the morning because they would have nothing to do in the afternoon.  Their salaries were paid whether times were good or bad.  They could afford a good standard of living and blamed the lower classes for any misfunction in society. When confronted with evidence that fellow pensioners were being cheated, they quoted the official propaganda that pensions were not subject to income or asset testing.  Yet 25% of pensioners missed out for those very reasons.  They failed to do anything about the expanding politically inspired injustices, because their minds had never experienced reality.

As usual the innocent suffered.  To quote the estimable Edmund Burke.
"The only thing
necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

In the fifties, sixties and seventies NZ had the third highest standard of living in the world but
has now dropped twenty-seven places to thirtieth.  But the "We Know Best" brigade still
considered it their right to earn five times the average salary plus perks and expenses.  The
plight of families struggling to buy cheese and fill up the petrol tank was ignored.   Apart from officialdom stealing their money, they are treated as though they didn't exist. Complaints to Ministers of Egotism were disregarded with their secretaries writing standardised scrabble of politically inspired bovine excrement.  It's like the innocent being found guilty and being punished for their pleadings of innocence.

The public were treated as the deep freeze that stored the politicians personal ice cream.

The inevitable future.

No doubt political wisdom based upon the con game (lies) used to promote the anti smoking
legislation will be utilised over and over again.

Example: the hooting of trumpets will herald the instigation of a new government department
designed to investigate why more than 20% of NZ children live below the poverty level. After several years putting ticks in little boxes and holding conferences in luxury resorts, it will be decided that poverty doesn't officially exist and that parents are to blame for the misconception.  To justify this argument, another department will be inaugurated to investigate the decisions of the original department.  To promote impartiality, both departments will hold internal inquiries validating their conclusions.  The icing on the cake will be independently authenticated by outside consultants writing reports corresponding to the evidence provided by the departments.  Thus, the Minister of Self Justification will proudly spout on television.  "Haven't we done well.  We have several independent reports saying there is no such thing as childhood poverty in NZ."

The violence will start when the people are pushed too far and the ice cream melts.  Then all Hell will break loose.  And it will happen in your lifetime.

I originally sent  this article to several newspapers to see if they would be interested in publishing same. The Sunday Star Times and the Herald wrote a polite "thank you but no thank you.' Not a problem, that is their right. Tim Pankhurst of the Dominion Post and Ian Whishart of Investigate Magazine didn't bother replying. Considering I have supported Wellington newspapers with letters and columns for more than thirty years, a brief reply from Tim Pankhurst wouldn't have gone amiss.  Is it possible that Ian Whishart's ego is overflowing with absolute power. Perhaps he should investigate himself.
