The Export Business
"One of the greatest pieces of wisdom is to know what you do not
                                                          know."

Galbraith

In light of the millions of jobs being exported from the US, it would be pertinent to mention
that NZ has been doing the same for many years.  Being politically correct (that's I) is one
thing and I find lying impossible because I've had no political experience.  So truthfully
speaking, Godzone's most successful exports are people, and with them go the jobs.

'Bye bye New Zealand, we're seeking fame and fortune overseas.  We're sick of the lousy
pay and dumbed down jobs.  We're young, we're bright and it doesn't take any brains to do a MacJob.  Any clown can cook hamburgers, work for a local council or a government
department.'

Apart the resident 4,000,000, more than 500,000 Kiwis live in Australia and about 300,000
are scattered around the globe at any given time.  Think of the economic powerhouse if they came back and used their talents for the national good.  People who travel extensively and experience multiple cultures, tend to be more adaptable and posses the ability to use their intelligence advantageously.  The country would boom.  Unfortunately they tend to stay
offshore because life is interesting and more financially rewarding.

Employment stagnation is a national disaster for Godzone.  This industry is closing down,
that business is going bankrupt etc.  The remaining jobs are only for those suffering
overindulgence of political correctness, posses a university degree in line dancing and can't think more than two minutes ahead.  To explain why intelligent Kiwis rarely return except for holidays, a couple of examples might be appropriate.

Recently I trotted into my local council to register my dog.  She was only 105 in our years and didn't know she had to be registered.  I was greeted by a couple of keen young people who appeared willing to help.  They were highly trained and read the questions from a piece of paper.  They asked my age, so I explained my birth was registered years ago and that I was still currently alive.  Besides, I was there to register my dog, not me.  Apparently my age had to be noted.  They didn't know why.  The answer wasn't on the piece of paper and it wasn't council policy to explain.

There was an extra fee because my dog had never been 'fixed.'  She'd never had pups, so I
suggested she was a gay and at 105 wasn't going to change her lifestyle for a yellow dog tag. But the extra fee was council policy.  I asked what was the council going to do for both me and the dog.  Mindless excuses but the real answer was absolutely nothing.  It was simply a money making scheme.  I asked if being registered would stop her biting little children?  If she did, would being registered make any difference to the child?  She'd never needed a dog tag for 105 years, so why would she need one now?  Was there a discount for half blind canine pensioners?  Shocked silence.  It wasn't council policy to comment.  $73 please.

They were two bright young people forced to do a dumbed down job to earn a living.  They
have no future in NZ and will probably wind up in Europe.

The next example was hilarious.  I applied for a job with a government department as a part-time support worker for the intellectually handicapped.  I had previous experience with theunfortunate and also lived with women for many years.  As soon as I walked in the door I
knew I would not be employed.  An old man was nodding in the corner and the questions
were read from a piece of paper by a mentally handicapped woman and a young girl with job title a mile long.  Her only talent was to put ticks in little boxes.  The questions were totally stupid and designed to attract applicants who would do what they're told without hesitation. Eg.  Uphold government policy no matter whom it hurt.  Be politically correct and don't ask commonsense questions.  Work for a low pay rate and be on call when required.  The entire scenario was sickening.

As expected, I received a letter in the negative.  I think the only reason I was interviewed, was their equal opportunity employment policy.  The last thing they wanted were people who could think for themselves.  Honesty, decency, commonsense and a lifetime of people
management skills isn't regarded as desirable.  To justify their job titles, they wanted people dumber than themselves.  I guess it made then feel superior.  No wonder the brighter Kiwis disappear overseas.
