An email to our politicians |

I mean you no personal harm but your anti smoking laws are ridiculous. You
do not have a mandate to discriminate against 25% of the population. Government
exists to provide the basic infrastructure of society, nothing more.
Coalface information from overseas show quite clearly that banning smoking in
bars is causing escalating problems. All that's needed is a simple compromise. Allow bars and restaurants to decide to be smoking or non smoking. But insist those smoking establishments have air purifiers. The Hon. Peter Dunne has made it clear that suitable devices are readily available. This will ensure everybody has a choice. This is what democracy is all about. You do not have a licence to tell people how to live their lives. In fact many people have just about had enough of being told what to do by politicians completely divorced from reality. If you insist on the current mindless legislation (Smoking, Civil Union, Foreshore and Seabed etc.) you will be voted out of office for betraying the trust of the people. Such legislation is not why you were elected. The people did not vote for a dictatorship. By all means educate the young to the dangers of smoking, although evidence is available that inherited genes seem to be the major cause of lung cancer. The smoking rate is reducing anyway but you are going too far, too fast. Remember the adage, Softly Softly Catchee Monkey. You can expect an increase in barroom violence and street litter. Smokers and non smokers will still die of cancer. Humans have 100% death rate, so just what is the point? Remember that the biggest crimes against humanity have always been committed by politicians who pretend they have the interests of the people at heart. A few comments from Adolf Hitler are appropriate. When you betray the trust of the people, your chance of an honourable survival is just about zero. When you make wrong decision consistently, nothing will survive your poor appraisal of reality. True leadership is based on openness and honesty, not arrogance and lies. You can deny truth but you cannot deny truth to others. To abuse power is to open yourself to open-ended retribution. Have you ever wondered why you are top of the list of untrusted people? |
The following was emailed to the PM, the Minister and Asociate Minister of Health,
my local MP, Paul Swain, and Steve Chadwick, the MP that instigated the smoking
ban. |
Naturally I haven't received a reply. Normally you get an automated answer but maybe
my email address has been barred. It seems a little senseless, but that's today's
politicians for you. Having only ever sent two emails, I can hardly
be regarded as an irresponsible nuisance. But I guess they don't like people
who promote honesty and decency. Perhaps commonsense is regarded as civil disobedience
and I deserve to be sent to Siberia? However, I would prefer Western
Samoa because it's warmer and I like coconut milk. I understand political death threats are not unusual but that's the last thing I would suggest. Besides, the death of one politician simply makes room for another and nothing will change. So what's the point? |
Reply from Damien O'Connor. He voted against the Civil Union Bill. |
Reply from MInister of Health. She wanted my address. Why? |
