"D" day Sept 17th |
"It is not the criminal that threatens freedom. It's the soulless bureaucrat
backed by political arrogance that creates an unjust society." Broughton Next Saturday the New Zealand election will proceed with the normal hoopla and predictable boredom. We'll trudge down the road to the local school and place our votes in the little boxes provided. By ten at night it will be over. The government will still be in power and nothing will change. Our one day of democracy every three years will leave us pondering the future of a once great country. The older person will remember the time when honesty and decency actually meant a viable society. Today, such commonsense has been back numbered in the name of political expediency. Arrogant government departments will continue issuing mindless edicts demanding money as a God given right, for they are a law unto themselves. And we, the silly people, will allow them to continue tyrannizing without protest. Sadly, the justice system is unbalanced and usually supports other authorities regardless of reality. Truthfulness used to be a personal asset but now it's a distinct liability. The authorities must be supported. Therefore, the honest man is crushed beneath the collective feet of totalitarianism. The rights of the individual are forsaken in the lust for domination. Human nature is both the cause and the end result of such greed. Whenever there is a revolution, the inevitable violence is always caused by the arrogant cupidity of those in power. The born to rule and the 'we know better that the peasants,' always lose their heads one way or another. Today, New Zealand is speeding down the unenviable road of Americanization. Politics and big business rule everything. If there's no money or political prestige attached, nothing happens. Our international debt has never been higher. Not so much by government borrowing but the consumer society created by business interests and credit cards, has established an unthinking buy now and pay later generation. The property market is ridiculously overpriced and interest rate increases are probable because of inflationary pressures caused by the financial promises of politicians. The bust of the credit boom is inevitable. There is little point in owing a flash car, plasma TV and a fancy cell phone that shows dirty movies, when your home is being sold from beneath your feet. Where is the basic commonsense of the past generations that enabled them to survive financially? One way or another, nearly a third of New Zealand's work force is employed by government or its agencies. This consolidates power in the hands of those who occupy the room at the top of the financial ladder. The door remains closed to the needs of the bankrupt peasants milling around in hope of salvation from the system they are forced to endure. If an injustice occurs and you complain to the politicians. They'll instruct a bureaucrat to write a letter explaining that they are only doing their job and that New Zealand is a democracy. Therefore, your circumstance are your choice. But if you vote for them, they'll think about it after the election. In reality, you're on your own, mate! |
