Native New Zealand Birds
This NZ owl is called a Morepork because of the sound it makes. It flew into the glass door and I managed to get a few shots while it was stunned. It's about a foot high. Then it flew away. It's the first time I'd seen a Morepork.
These scrawny birds are called Pukeko. They can't fly. There are thousands of them living in this new industrial estate. I find it amazing that native birds can live alongside humans. But I guess they were here first and quite rightfully claim NZ as their own. They are equally at home in parking lots or grazing in paddocks like cows. I think the street light without a street has them fascinated. Sooner or later the government will find a way to tax them to death.
Note the unofficial bird sanctury below.
